Buying From Bright Diamond - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know the diamond I receive is the quality I purchased?
To ensure that the diamond you receive is the quality that your purchased, each loose diamond is accompanied by:

·
A diamond certificate, or diamond grading report, which details the quality of the diamond. Read more about diamond certificates.
·
An appraisal, which describes the diamond and the current monetary value of the diamond. Read more about BrightDiamond, Inc.'s free appraisal service.
·
A Gemprint™ Registration Certificate, which describes the diamond and includes the unique "fingerprint" of the diamond. Read more about BrightDiamond, Inc.'s free Gemprint™ registration service.

How do I know her ring size?
The easiest way to know her ring size is to ask her, or have her use our ring sizer. Click here for our ring sizer.
However, if you want to surprise her, here are a couple of suggestions on finding her ring size without her knowing:

·
Ask her mother or her friends - they often know.
·
Put one of her rings on your finger as far as it will go, mark the edge, and use our ring sizer on your own finger up to the mark. Just make sure the ring is one that she wears on her fourth finger.
·
Or, on a similar note, put one of her rings onto a tapered candle, mark the edge, and use our ring sizer on the candle up to the mark. Again, make sure the ring is one that she wears on her fourth finger.

What are the "4 C's"?
The "4 C's" are four different aspects of a diamond used to determine a diamond's value.
The "4 C's" are:

·
Cut: The geometric proportions of a diamond that allow light to refract and create the diamond's brilliance.
·
Color: The color of the diamond ranging from colorless to light yellow.
·
Clarity: The presence or absence of inclusions and blemishes within a diamond.
·
Carat Weight: The size of a diamond as measured in carats. One carat equals 200 milligrams

Which of the "4 C's" is the most important?
When it comes to diamonds, cut is the most important of the "4 C's." The cut determines to a large extent how light is reflected off the diamond and creates the diamond's brilliance. A good cut can also hide or minimize inclusions.
You can read more about the "4 C's" in our Shopper's Guide.

What's a Diamond Grading Report or Certificate?
A diamond grading report, or certificate, is a document provided by a third-party gemological laboratory that details the different aspects of a diamond, such as the "4 C's," that determines a diamond's values. The gem lab's skilled gemologists use specialized equipment to evaluate each diamond.
There are several highly regarded independent gemological laboratories which BrightDiamond, Inc. uses to certify our diamonds:

·
Gemological Institute of America (GIA)
·
American Gemological Society Laboratories (AGSL)
·
International Gemological Institute (IGI)

Why don't all diamonds come with a grading report or certificate?
Because of the cost involved in certifying a diamond, prices for smaller diamonds would become artificially inflated if they were to be certified.

Why should I have my diamond Gemprinted?
Gemprint™ is a highly sophisticated new technology that captures a diamond's unique sparkle pattern, its "fingerprint," by scanning a diamond with a non-invasive, low-powered laser. It is the only court-approved method of positively identifying a diamond since, unlike a laser inscription, it cannot be removed or altered.
Once a diamond is Gemprinted, it is registered in a database that is used by law enforcement officials to match recovered diamonds against ones reported to be lost or stolen.
Some insurance companies offer discounts on diamonds that have been registered with Gemprint™.

What if I want to return my order and I cannot find the certificate or appraisal?
If you want to return a loose diamond but you cannot find the diamond certificate or the appraisal, you will be charged a replacement fee.

·
The replacement fee for a diamond certificate is $250.
·
The replacement fee for an appraisal is $40.

What is a conflict diamond?
A conflict diamond, also called a blood diamond, is a diamond clandestinely mined in a war zone in order to finance an insurgent or invading army's war efforts. The United Nations has decried the sale of conflict diamonds, arguing that their trade finances armies in fighting against legitimate governments and perpetrating human rights violations, and prolongs devastating wars.

As responsible citizens and jewelry merchants, we share the public's concern regarding conflict diamonds. At
BrightDiamond, Inc., we only purchase our diamonds through respected, well-established, legal channels. We are a firm supporter of the Kimberley Process, which requires that all US diamond retailers purchase diamonds from manufacturers who certify that their shipments of rough diamonds were obtained through legitimate channels and are free from conflict diamonds.
